The Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley are extraordinary natural attractions that captivate visitors with their unique formations and vibrant colors. Nearby stands the imposing Ausangate Mountain (6,372 m / 20,905 ft) – the highest peak in the Cusco region.
This tour is designed to explore authentic landscapes near the Andes Mountain Range, admire the sunrise over the Rainbow Mountain, and hike through the Red Valley — a place that will make you feel as though you’ve set foot on Mars.
By choosing green travel, you directly support local indigenous communities who run the logistics of our treks. We maintain fair wages, supply premium gear, and provide professional training for all our local team members.
Your adventure begins early in the morning. We will pick you up from your accommodation at 04:00 a.m. and drive approximately three and a half hours in our private transport to Quesiuno Village, where our chef will prepare a delicious and nutritious breakfast to give you the energy needed to start the trek.rnThe hike begins towards Abra Puka (4,870 m / 15,978 ft), from where you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Ausangate Mountain and the surrounding lagoons. Along the trail, you’ll encounter traditional Andean homes where local families live in harmony with nature and hold deep respect for the mountains. You’ll also have the opportunity to see herds of llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat.rnAfter spending some time at the first pass, we’ll descend for about an hour and a half until reaching Anantapata, where we’ll enjoy a nutritious Andean lunch. Once ready, we’ll continue ascending to the second pass known as Abra Warmisaya (4,985 m / 16,355 ft). From this point, you’ll catch your first distant view of the Rainbow Mountain.rnWe’ll then continue for approximately one more hour until arriving at our campsite in Surineqocha (4900 m / 16,076 ft). Upon arrival, our chef will welcome you with “Happy Hour,” which includes snacks and hot beverages. Later, you’ll enjoy a hearty dinner before heading to your tent for a well-deserved rest.
