May 2026 • Couples

"A good guide is someone who knows the city they are showing you: someone who knows its history, important dates, key events, and the people who shaped them... But this isn't just about meeting a good guide. It's about meeting an ideal, almost perfect guide..."

The best Inca Trail experience

August 2025 • Friends

"Inca Trails Peru was absolutely phenomenal to work with. The guides were amazing and so friendly and knowledgeable. They took time to explain and answer questions and we had a great time. The hike was beautiful! The group was so grateful to have Jordan and Carlos with us. The porters worked so hard to take care of us and the food was fantastic."

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before embarking on your mystical adventure to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail.

How far in advance should I book the Inca Trail?

We recommend booking 4 to 6 months in advance, as official permits issued by the Ministry of Culture for the Inca Trail are strictly limited per day.

What is the best time of year to trek in Cusco?

The best season is the dry season, from May to October, featuring sunny days, clear skies, and cool nights ideal for Andean treks.

How should I prepare for altitude sickness (soroche)?

We advise arriving in Cusco at least 2 days before starting the trek to acclimatize, staying well hydrated, drinking coca tea, and avoiding heavy meals on the first day.

What is included in the guide and porter service?

Includes certified bilingual professional guides, full high-end camping equipment, professional porters for group gear, and Andean chefs with nutritious menus.

Is travel insurance mandatory for the treks?

Yes, we require every traveler to have travel insurance covering medical emergencies, mountain evacuations, and eventual cancellation contingencies.

What gear should I carry in my daypack?

Original passport, windbreaker/rain jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, reusable water bottle, and your essential personal items.

Are vegetarian or special diet options available?

Of course! Our Andean chefs prepare menus tailored to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or food allergy restrictions at no extra cost.

Can families with children or seniors do the trek?

Yes, we organize private expeditions with an adapted pace. Recommended from age 8 upwards and for people of any age in suitable physical condition.

What happens if Classic Inca Trail spots are sold out?

We offer spectacular alternative routes such as Salkantay Trek, Lares & Andean Communities, or the Short 2-Day Inca Trail arriving directly at Sun Gate.

How do you promote sustainable and responsible tourism?

We operate under strict Leave No Trace standards, fair treatment and wages for porters, and direct social investment in Andean communities.
