Salkantay Trek 4 Days 3 Nights
Embark on one of Peru's most magnificent adventures: the Salkantay Trek, recognized among the top 25 hikes in the world. From turquoise glacial lakes…
The Apu Ausangate Trek to Rainbow Mountain (4D/3N) is one of the most breathtaking high-Andean expeditions in southern Peru. Traversing the pristine wilderness of the Vilcanota Mountain Range, this route takes you around Ausangate (6,384 m / 20,945 ft) — the most sacred peak in the Cusco region — before culminating at the world-famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) and the surreal Red Valley.
In Andean cosmology, the Apu represents the sacred spirit and protector of the mountains — the creator of life and guardian of the Andes. Throughout this expedition, you will be guided by a professional adventure guide, supported by a skilled mountain chef and experienced horsemen who will share ancestral knowledge, local traditions, and the spiritual essence of the highlands.
Our pack horses will carry all camping gear and supplies, allowing you to enjoy a seamless and enriching trekking experience in one of the most remote and awe-inspiring landscapes in Peru.
By trekking around Apu Ausangate, you directly support high-Andean communities of the Vilcanota Range. Our horsemen, chefs, and local guides receive fair wages, proper gear, and ongoing training. We care for the trails, respect sacred sites, and minimize our footprint to preserve this fragile mountain ecosystem for future generations.
We begin our adventure early in the morning with a hotel pick-up in Cusco at 4:00 a.m. and a scenic three-hour drive to Upis Village (4,250 m / 13,943 ft), the starting point of our trek. Here, you will meet your trekking team — including your mountain chef and horsemen — and enjoy a nourishing breakfast before setting off.rnOur trek starts with a gentle uphill climb through open meadows dotted with alpacas and llamas. As we ascend, the snow-capped Ausangate massif dominates the horizon, offering spectacular photographic opportunities. We arrive at our lunch spot surrounded by glacial streams and wild Andean flora.rnAfter lunch, we continue toward our first campsite near the Upis Hot Springs (4,400 m / 14,436 ft). Upon arrival, you’ll have the option to relax in the natural thermal baths — a soothing treat after a day’s hike. A warm dinner prepared by your chef awaits before a peaceful night under the Andean sky.
